Creating Your Dreams List

This won’t surprise you, but my favorite part of the entire Dreams Program is helping someone create their own dreams list.

When I made my first dreams list, I remember how empowered and uplifted I felt.

It was so freeing to be given the space to eliminate defeating thoughts like, “I don’t think I’ll have time or money for this.” I was simply able to think abundantly, which felt incredible.

Initially, I didn’t really talk (or think) much about my dreams list after creating it. But thankfully (after a few years of it living on my computer), I dug my dreams list back out and reprioritized it in my life. In 2013 I really started to utilize my list by actually making plans, getting things in my calendar, and implementing the Dreams System in my organization. Since then, it’s become central to our company culture and I’ve helped hundreds of people create their own dreams lists.

Wondering where you should start? Luckily, it’s extremely simple.

All you need to do is sit down, put some great music on, and think abundantly. DON’T think with any time or financial restraints. It doesn’t do you any good during an exercise like this!  Start with an easy category like travel. Then you can move on to other categories, including adventure (think skydiving, horseback riding, white water rafting) or the material (a new car, timeshare, or season tickets to your favorite sports team).

Other awesome categories include:

  • Career/Vocation
  • Family
  • Relationships
  • Religion
  • Health
  • Finances

The goal? Force yourself to think like you did when you were 15, 18, 20 years old. What did you believe was possible for yourself then? What would it look like to accomplish those goals now?

Just writing your dreams down makes it more likely that you’ll accomplish them.

This process will help you to notice things that you didn’t before- and you will likely realize that many of the things you write down are more accessible and easily attainable than you may have originally thought.

So, open the door to opportunity by at least starting your list. Regardless of what you choose to do with it, the moments you give yourself to dream and wonder are going to put you in a better mental and spiritual place.
